why are Al and B non-magnetic

Can anyone answer the question why Aluminum and Boron are non-magnetic?
I mean they do have an unpaired electron each. So why doesn't it result in a net magnetic moment as for instance with Cobalt?

I have just seen that Boron is diamagnetic and Aluminum is paramagnetic. How come that their magnetic properties are that different although they both have an open shell with an unpaired electron?
