Are the volume of solvent and the volume of solution are the same?
I can't readily give you an example, but the answer is no.

In typical situations the solute dissolves in the solvent and the volume of the solution is (at least very close) to the volume of the solvent.

But consider that the solute takes up space between the molecules of the solvent. Therefore it is quite possible under some circumstances that the solution has a greater volume than the solvent.

I have been told by one of my instructors from College that there is an example of this, but I do not recall anymore what that example is.
