I would not describe myself a believer in all this(but I do keep an open mind) ... I have never met a physicist who I felt understood it , and could explain it to my satisfaction ..

The youtube videos which appear to come from very professional looking people seem to contradict one another ...

One expert says very clearly that direction of speed is immaterial to this change in time, yet einstein's thought experiment (see video in post 7 ...at 35 secs) implies something else ... that if the tram is moving away from the clock it appears slow , but if moving towards the clock it appears fast ...

Someone please explain that to me!
