A very literal minded interpretation of the bible (genesis) would seem to lie counter to the idea of evolution.
However (as with much of the Bible) a bit of clear minded study shows that genesis is not intended to be taken literally.

Once you allow for a poetic interpretation of the text, there is actually surprisingly little conflict with current scientific thinking.

When Bob Dylan sang about "hard rain" he was not talking about a hail storm,
when the bible talks about a day, it does not necessarily mean 24 little hours.
