I like to share the problem here and hope to get correct solution of it. Please perform brain storming . Best of Luck ! Problem: Reservoir A has elevation 1246 masl, the pipe diameter is d1=2.2m, discharge to carry is 2.3 m3/sec. On the other hand, The Reservoir B has elevation 1314 masl, discharge to carry is 0.8 m3/s. Both pipe meets at one junction 1240 masl. The length between Reservoir A and Junction is 2400 m whereas and distance between Reservoir B and Junction is 1000 m. From the junction, one penstock with diameter 1.2 m is running to Powerhouse and which carries total (2.3+0.8) = 3.1 m3/s. Please find out the diameter of pipe running from Reservoir B to Junction. Please also check velocity with respect to allowable velocity in steel pipe. Friction factor f = 0.011. Thanks in advance !
