how to use lens formula??

actually, how to use lens formula??

i see on google that there is also "mirror formula" which has the similar mathematical forms as the lens formula. Are they the same?

What is the significance of lens/mirror formula and what should I be careful of when using it?

Thanks!

They are similar ; the convex lenses and concave mirrors have similar behaviour in the sense both cause convergence and can thus form real images. The convex mirror and concave lens however do not form real images.

Be careful of sign conventions. They often vary for different texts.

I prefer to use the convention that distances to real images are +ve.
