Why has Tex stopped working?

mathml used to work only a month ago, but now neither tex nor mathml work for me.

How can we discuss mathematics if we can't write it?

We have new users asking mathematical questions that need mathematical answers.

I don't know anything about mathml, but "math" tags are still working.

Not for me they are not, and apparantly not for some others.

I can no longer see many of the maths formulae I used to be able to here for example you 'Tex' post and my previous 'test' post on the subject.

None of the 'tricks', like refreshing or leaving a thread and returning work any longer.

mathml stands for 'mathematics markup language' which is the maths equivalent of html or hypertext markup language.

The mathml tags are the tags you have been recommending.

For some reason the parser on this site now removes these and substitutes a $ sign and the words 'display style'

Testing LaTeX, using [math ] delimiters:

$\displaystyle x = \frac {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a} $

and with dollar signs:

$x = \frac {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a} $

Both seem to work fine. If you try using [tex] delimiters it doesn't work on this site (never has):

$\displaystyle x = \frac {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a} $

Using TEX math tags now work, just the same as using MATH or LATEX tags. Hope that makes it easier for whatever tag system you're used to.
