thought experiment Newtons Laws?

The other evening i noticed something strange.
I was on a train that was slowing down as it was pulling into the station. I was walking in the opposite direction along the carriage. I noticed that this seemed harder than it normally does?
Am i working harder in this situation? Or did i simply have too much to drink?

The train is decelerating so there would definitely be a force transmitted, from the train through your feet, to your body. That could make it more difficult.

So the train was decelerating and you were walking towards the back of the train ...

Imagine if instead , you jumped in the air , you would keep your high horizontal velocity , the train is slowing , you facing towards the end of the train would see the carriage move towards the end of the train , you would move backwards towards the engine ...making it hard work to walk towards the rear...

Moral of the story ... at the end of a hard day ... (particularly on a london tube train) always chose the exit nearest the front of the train or even better , when pulling into your station , get out of your seat , face towards the exit in direction of the front of the train ... wait for the right moment to jump in the air , and the door will come to you!
