Can anybody introduce to me a word processor to write surveys on physics and maths?

Microsoft Word seems to do well enough. It contains a reasonably decent equation writer (and you can buy an upgrade to it which does an excellent job). Otherwise I believe Adobe has a product that enables such things like LaTeX.

MS Word can be used (it's what I use) but it can be a bit of a battle to get it to do what you want.
Word is principally designed for what we might term secretarial/home office work.
Scientific report writing facilities are added as afterthoughts.

Bibliographies, References, Captions, Equations... can all be done,
but all have somewhat flaky, awkward to use, features.

I have not personally used LaTex,
but colleagues who have say it is far better for scientific work than Word.

I get the impression that the initial learning curve for LaTex is steeper than Word,
but once over the hump (I have been told) it gives cleaner facilities for scientific reporting.

One other consideration is compatibility with what others are using.
If you have collaborators, or moderators, or publishers, or...,
Is there a particular format might they like to receive the document in?
