Smile Gravitation in the Universe

Hi,

I'm happy to have found this forum

We created some animations on the workings of gravitation and centrifugal forces in the Universe. Perhaps, someone find it useful or want to give feedback

Best wishes,
Rolf

Interesting animation, good video quality. Some of the explanations could be a bit clearer. I realize this is intended for an audience not well-grounded in physics, and so is a bit simplistic, but a couple of statements are exaggerated. For example, there's a statement that the Earth has been rotating at essentially the same rate for billions of years, which is not quite true. Tidal effects have caused the Earth to slow - the length of a day used to be about 23 hours around 300 million years ago, and even now every few years we have to add a "leap second" to accommodate for the slowing rotation. This is probably beyond the scope of the video, but you should be careful in making a blanket statement that the rotation is absolutely constant. Another misleading bit is in talking about work that can be produced by harnessing flows (for example ocean currents) - harnessing this to produce electricity through a turbine does have the effect of slowing the rotation of the Earth, though of course the amount of energy produced is infinitesimal compared to the rotational energy of the Earth, so the effect is minuscule. But nevertheless, there is no free lunch.
