555 timer circuit help- relationships of components to generate sound

Hi can anyone tell me how the 555 timer device and other components of the circuit relate to each-other and how they work together to create a certain frequency for sound..??

So far I have researched and have found that the 555 timer has 8 pins each with a different functions on the site below:

But I dont know how everything connects? its very complicating :S
I understand the functions of each pin however I do not know how they relate to the circuit in order to create sound :S?!?

Perhaps the 555 timer allows some voltage to pass at a time to create a pulse?> frequency> sound?

Any help would be appreciated
