Acoustic wave in acousto-optic device

Summary (TLDR)
- Two optical peaks are created by a dual mode laser, but three are observed. Any optical phenomena that could cause this?

Basically I am working on a dual mode laser, and when the output wavelength are a certain distance from each other, a third optical peak is observed between the other two. At two points symmetric about the point where the output waves have the same wavelength, all three peaks are observable at one time. Between these two peaks, only two are observable at any given time the centre (third) peak and one of the other two expected ones depending on the input power ratio.

Thanks in advance for any help-

Question Can You Clarify

Perhaps its simply because I have no knowledge of dual mode lasers,
but I am finding it very difficult to follow your description of the problem.

This in turn makes suggesting a solution somewhat challenging.
My thoughts however are:-

Is the laser working correctly?
Are you trying to do something which is beyond the "normal" for such a device?
i.e. are you pushing it beyond the manufacturers specification?
Are you looking in more detail than the "average" user and therefore seeing a very small effect which most users would not be troubled by?
