kepler's laws of gravitation

can anyone explain what is the importance of this rule?

1)the line joining the sun and a planet sweeps out equal areas in equal times
2) the square of the period of revolution of a planet is proportional to the cube of its mean distance from the sun

Importance for what?
You should try to formulate a good question to have change to get an answer.

Their importance for Kepler? Maybe they made him famous.
Importance for you? For astronomy? For high-school physics? For history of science? And so on...
