Piezoelectric sensor as energy harvester

Hi guys, I am new here. I have something to ask about the circuit below, the circuit was my previous senior final year project circuit and my lecturer gave it to me to refer it. Well, I am not sure the function of the transistor here. Can someone explain it to me? Your effort will be greatly appreciate. Piezoelectric sensor as energy harvester-capture.jpg

A semi-educated guess...

To me this looks like a simple amplifier circuit.

The power output of most piezoelectric devices is pretty tiny, so an amplifier would make sense.

I might also guess that this could be to improve the impedance matching between the piezoelectric device and the oscilloscope.

Thanks

Whew, finally~ Well, sometimes I confuse whether the transistor will function as switch or amplifier. I am pretty weak on reading circuit. Thanks for your help, I think the transistor also function as amplifier.
